What is a PDF?

PDF is short for Portable Document Format. A PDF document works a lot like a fax. It is basically a picture of a document that looks the same on any computer.

With PDFs you can:

  • share files with others who don't have the same software.
  • share files with others who use a different platform (Mac vs. Windows)
  • share files that will look the same (layout, fonts) on multiple computer systems.
  • print files to many different types of printers, so they always look essentially the same.

To print a copy of the whole document, you can download the PDF to your individual computer, and print it from there. For more details, read the Help entry "How do I print a PDF from a Resource Window?"(adapted from About.com)
